Our client are one of the UKs biggest partners to the construction industry, and an exciting opportunity has arisen to join their dynamic team as a Technical Soils Manager.
The appointed candidate will assist the regional sales teams on both waste compliance and commercial aspects.
A key task is ensuring all waste activities undertaken by the business are compliant with all current legal, regulatory and contractual requirements.
You will also assist the sales team with waste enquires, offering advice on the classification, disposal options, pricing and proposing alternative solutions where appropriate to give best commercial advantage in any given situation.
As part of the solution, additional soil testing may be required and the proposal, sampling and report writing will form part of the role.
The role will require the management of the waste supply chain, building relationships with key people, negotiating best possible disposal rates and identifying new opportunities. Where deemed necessary by the commercial team they may also manage key customer accounts from a waste perspective.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In conjunction with the compliance co-ordinator ensure the day to day compliance of the waste moved within the business region
Review soil reports / chemical analysis / site investigations for the commercial teams, advising on waste classifications, potential disposal points or any other options that may offer a commercial gain to our proposal
Sending the above enquiries out to various suppliers / tip operators, sourcing the best possible disposal location and price to make us as competitive as possible
When required, dealing with the customer / site - either directly or alongside the sales person – to advise and assist on waste matters, whether this be over the phone or at an office or site meeting
Maintain supplier relationships and market knowledge, conducting regular visits to suppliers
Conduct on site testing including management of the sales process, laboratory and report writing
When required assist with or run training for the sales teams and conduct waste inductions for new starters
Monthly reporting on enquiries and sales figures and attendance at regional sales meetings
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of waste legislation, technical assessments and WM3. In addition, you will be competent in analytical interpretation, risk management, problem solving, be a logical thinker, and have the ability to communicate (written and verbal) complex information to all levels
We are looking to hear from candidates who have previous experience in Soil analysis, waste legislation and construction waste management, and although not essential, it would be advantageous to have anunderstanding of waste permitting (inc CL:AIRE MMP, exemptions etc) , existing supplier and producer relationships and soil sampling.
