They are one of the leading civil engineering and rail contractors working throughout Wales, the midlands and south-west England.
The Design Manager is responsible for coordinating the design process on a project, from tender to Client / end-user handover. Ensuring that the designs produced are efficiently buildable, sustainable, delivered on time, within budget and eliminate / minimise the safety risks for those undertaking construction on site.
The role will see you working across two major highways projects; one near St Austell, Cornwall, and the other near Barnstaple, North Devon.
The Design Manager will be accountable for the following within each project:
- Ensuring completeness of scope in the Design Brief and allocation of the remit to the designer(s)
- Accountable for the day-to-day management and co-ordination of technical and engineering activities.
- Ensure suitable design is delivered within safety, sustainability, time, cost, and quality requirements.
- Communication of the design programme to the project team and Client as required.
- Management of design change in line with the Site Change Control process and mitigation of any design delays where applicable.
- Engagement in the periodic assessment of our designer’s performance.
Required experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training
- Degree/HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- 10 years’ experience within construction and project management
- Conversant across varied construction sectors
- Effective communication and project co-ordination focus
- Proficient in IT (Microsoft Office package)
Desirable experience, qualifications, and training
- Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent relevant body desirable
- Knowledge and experience using various BIM packages when working in Network Rail Common Data Environment (ProjectWise, Connect Bentley, AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, etc.)
- Previous design management experience
