A well-established college in the Cambridge area is seeking a skilled and dedicated Communication Support Worker (CSW) to join its experienced support team. About the Role
As a Communication Support Worker, you will support Deaf and hearing-impaired students across a range of vocational subjects. Working closely with teaching staff, you will assist students in accessing the curriculum, developing their independence, and achieving their full potential.

This is a term-time role within a college setting, providing a vibrant and collaborative working environment with opportunities for continued professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the communication needs of Deaf learners using British Sign Language (BSL)

  • Facilitate access to learning and promote student independence and inclusion

  • Work alongside teaching staff to support individual learning goals

  • Use initiative and empathy when managing support in varied classroom situations

  • Assist with student engagement, confidence, and progress

Essential Requirements

  • British Sign Language (BSL) qualification at Level 3 or the ability to sign fluently at that level

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths

  • Understanding of the needs of Deaf students and/or experience working with learners with SEND

  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a professional, learner-focused approach

  • Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (this is essential for the role)

Desirable

  • Formal CSW qualification

  • Previous experience in a further education or college environment
