About the Role

Our client are seeking a skilled and motivated Management Accountant to join the established Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and effectiveness of the organisations financial management. You will support the Head of Finance in producing high-quality monthly management information, statutory returns, year-end financial statements and long-term budget forecasts.

Alongside technical accounting responsibilities, you will act as a coordinator within the finance team, helping to maintain efficient day-to-day operations and supporting continuous improvement across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and analysing monthly management accounts, Balance Sheet and Cashflow reports, and 3-year budget forecasts.
  • Support the preparation of annual financial statements and statutory reporting.
  • Maintain accurate, clear and compliant financial information and documentation.
  • Prepare and review month-end and year-end reconciliations (e.g., creditor and debtor ledgers, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, payroll, bank reconciliations, credit cards, petty cash).
  • Produce quarterly VAT returns, including partial exemption adjustments.
  • Assist with cashflow forecasts and budget preparation.
  • Support the Head of Finance and CFO with internal/external reports, audits and financial procedures across all sites.
  • Coordinate and support daily operations within the finance office, helping manage team workload and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Respond to queries from staff and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with management of the financial accounting system and provide support across the team.
  • Support insurance administration, including collating and monitoring claim documentation.
  • Provide cover for other finance functions and promote good financial practice across the organisation.

Person Specification

This role would suit someone with the following skills and experience:

Essential

  • Proven accounting and problem-solving skills, with experience managing day-to-day financial information—ideally in an educational or charity environment.
  • Experience preparing month-end and year-end financial reports.
  • Audit experience within a regulated environment.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in Excel (including analytical formulas) and Word.
  • Experience using accounting systems and electronic or cloud-based services.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to improving working practices.
  • Confidence in implementing and supporting process changes and updating working papers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with diplomacy, professionalism, and compassion.
  • Accountability and performance management skills.
  • Strong administrative ability with a high regard for confidentiality.
  • Willingness and flexibility to learn and adopt new procedures effectively.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • A commitment to teamwork and continued professional development.

Desirable

  • Level 4 qualification or higher in accounting or a related subject.
